Who is behind ESi?

ESi is run by automotive professionals that, just like most of you, have spent most of their professional lives in the automotive industry. Each of the associate instructors or consultants/coaches has been in the automotive industry for at least 20 years. It is this experience and expertise that they bring to the table in everything they do!

“Independent Solutions for Individual Needs” is not just a statement pulled from thin air; it is a way of life for every Team ESi associate! You’ll see this statement on most of the ESi marketing materials because we believe treating everyone’s automotive businesses in a “cookie cutter” fashion accomplishes very little. However, if we address each person’s businesses as an individual business with different circumstances, different demographics, and different specialties we will achieve a higher level of success every time!


Meet the Team ESi Associates

Maylan Newton

Owner of ESi, Senior Instructor

Maylan brings his knowledge, expertise and experience to every seminar he produces and presents, as well as every business he coaches and consults with. This knowledge base is pulled from real world experiences as an ASE Master Technician, Service Writer, Service Manager, General Manager, Coach and Consultant, and as a Temp Service Writer in hundreds of Automotive Repair Facilities across the country. As a preferred Instructor for organizations like ASCCA, ASA, ATRA, BIMRS Group, CARS and the Show Power Training expo’s, he understands today’s issues within the Automotive Industry. And through his accomplishments and accolades, he has earned the reputation for being the #1 Authority in Professional Sales and Business Management with many industry professionals.

As Maylan shares his experiences, winning formulas and philosophies for business prosperity, his unique sense in approaching workplace attitudes and procedures further contributes to his success as an educator, coach and consultant to the industry. Maylan conducts trainings year-round, addressing common problems faced in daily business practices, while providing solutions designed to bring about positive change. He has the ability to stimulate and motivate his audience’s focus towards the drive and direction needed in meeting business goals, while achieving personal and financial success.

Ray Kunz

Senior Automotive Coach/Consultant & Operations Specialist

Ray started in the Automotive Industry as a Technician. After achieving a goal of becoming an ASE Master Technician, he moved on to Service Writing, then Service Managing, General Managing, and Temp Service Writing. He finally ended where he is today, as a General Automotive and Transmission facility Coach and Consultant specializing in Internal Procedures, Work Flow and People Management. His unique style and approach to shop numbers, workflow and procedures within his client’s facilities make Ray very effective in building better, stronger and more profitable businesses. His understanding of today’s issues with employees and customers allows for quicker results.

Ray provides management assistance to business owners and employees through a unique program of personalized, In-Shop and Phone Support attention. Staying dedicated to helping each achieve the kind of professionalism in performance and positive change in their businesses has earned Ray the worthy reputation as "The Professional's Professional!”

Ryan Tunison

Automotive Coach/Consultant & Director of Operations

As an Automotive Business Owner, Service Writer and former ASE Certified Technician, Ryan brings a unique and fresh perspective to Team ESi and all our clients. As a current Automotive Shop owner, Ryan understands the difficult demand every business owner faces daily, and has helped develop programs to combat today’s varied issues. From poor economic situations, to employee development, Ryan has proven time and time again that he has what it takes to be successful in today’s automotive environment.

Ryan’s abilities as the ESi Special Projects Coordinator have helped bring Team ESi a better understanding of what their customers want and need. He has done this through projects such as the design, creation and implementation of multiple ESi Customer Satisfaction Surveys. His unbridled approach to helping create new subject matter for future Educational Seminars and projects has not only allowed him to grow, but has helped ESi grow as well. His continued enthusiasm towards becoming better at managing his Automotive Business, as well as the Coaching and Consulting side of ESi, has lead Ryan to a full work load and then some. Even while working almost 2 full-time jobs, Ryan still finds the time to be a husband and father of two, that’s dedication!

Kevin Donohoe

Instructor & Procedures Consultant

Kevin brings a lifetime of accomplishments to the Team ESi table; from being a current owner of two very successful Automotive Businesses in the Monterey County area, to ASE Master Technician, ASE Service Consultant and an accomplished College Instructor in the automotive field, Kevin has “walked the walk.” Both his facilities are currently AAA approved, Certified Green Businesses and both are ASE Blue Seal Certified, thus qualifying him to have “talked the talk.” Kevin’s accomplishments in general business, and then specifically the automotive business, give him a unique perspective of business and our industry. Kevin has a long-term association with ESi, initially as a student, then client and then sometimes a mentor. When it came time to ask, it took very little encouragement to get him to agree to join Team ESi to share his unique and focused perspectives as an Instructor.

His work as a past ASCCA State Director gives him further insight into the politics of the Automotive Industry, making him an invaluable source of information when it comes to where the State and Federal laws are taking our industry. Kevin’s philosophy of “lead by example” has built his current automotive businesses to the successes they are today. That same philosophy closely follows Team ESi’s, making this match a WIN/WIN for both ESi and our Students/Clients.
